2012 Explorer Limited
Hi, I picked up my new '12 Limited a few days ago and I am having fun trying out all the features. One feature that I cannot figure out is the remote start. The car starts fine with the remote, but when I try to put the car in gear it dies.

The manual says the start button and brake pedal need to be pressed at the same time. Either my timing is way off or it doesn't really work that way.

Anyone know the secret sequence to keep the truck running?

Put your foot on the brake, then press the button.

Do not try to time it.

Brake first, button second.

So.... remote start your car, get in, put foot on brake, push button, car will then run normally and you can put it in gear and go!

When you use the remote start, you still have to "start" the car normally.
The remote start starts the engine, but does not start all of the electronics. When you get in and go thru the normal start, it will start up all of the electronics. The engine continues to run while that is happening. I think part of the reason is security from stealing, or children messing with it......not sure.
I think it is alittle strange, but that is the way it works.

I thought the car was shutting off too, but the car sounds like it shuts off...mostly because the havoc shuts down and the car is so quiet.

I'm sure if you do it with the brake, then button and have confidence, you'll see it works.

You don't press the brake and start button at the 'same time'....you press the brake, THEN press the start button.

if you remote start the truck, then when you get in, you don't HAVE to depress the brake pedal...you can just push the 'push button' TWICE. it will go to 'accessory' then 'on'.

Same thing happened to me when I first got my Ex and I was showing off how cool it is to a friend, boy did I look foolish when it died!

Owners manual covers this though and tells you that you have to push the start button in the car once you get in.

The thing that threw me at first was that it sounds like the engine shuts off when you do it. In reality what is happening is that the Explorer increases it's idle RPMs when doing a remote start to warm up the engine faster (and warm or cool the cabin quicker). When you start the Explorer it reduces the idle back to normal which means a quieter sound.

There is also an option for 'Quiet Start' if you find the increased idle too raucous.

Brake then button
Or
Button twice
