Circuit city will never touch another of my vehicles. I've had them do a stereo installation and two alarm installations.
The stereo installation they wired one of the front speakers right, one of them reversed polarity, and the back speakers were reversed (left sound came out the right, right out the left). Also, they used lamp cord for speaker wire. I took it back and they said that it's standard practice to use lamp cord because it's cheaper and sufficient but since they had screwed up and had to rewire it anyhoo, if i wanted to purchase real speaker wire, they would install it. I bought good wire and watched the kid install it (same kid who did it the first time). He screwed up the first speaker he did (reverse polarity again) so I stood over the kid's shoulder for the rest of the install and told him exactly what to do. At some point durring the install, he said "I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING!", to which I responded, "Obviously you don't, or I wouldn't be here right now." Needless to say, he wasn't too happy with me by the end of it.
After that, I didn't want them to ever touch my car again but alarm installs are included in the price of the alarm. I thought I would be safe going to a different shop. I was wrong.
The first alarm install, they made way too sensitive and mounted it under the passenger seat in a way that if you moved the seat, it would go off, even if the vehicle was running. I was in the Navy at the time and if an aircraft flew over, it went off. When I moved it to under the dash, I found that they had cut all the wires on the harness to about an inch long.
The second alarm they did was in my current X. Everytime I touch the keyless entry pad, the alarm goes off. I haven't attempted to fix this yet so I don't know how the install looks but it's really annoying to have the alarm go off everytime I use the keyless entry.
All three installations were done at different locations so this looks like more of a trend than an isolated incident. Also, all three were done by HS kids with no training. I have never seen a professional in a circuit city installation bay.
If I ever have electronics installed in a vehicle by someone other than myself, I'll go to a small shop with professionals who take pride in their work.
