Since Automatic transmission has hydraulic fluid running through it.
I was wodering if it would be better to run a parker hydraulic spin on filter with a bypass in it. 15 or 30 psi??

I had posted this same question on the end of the long post about the remote filter installs and comments and got not answer.

Maybe this would help clean out some of the floaters.

Please advise so I don't blow my trans.

Thanks for all the help
This is the 3rd time I have asked for help and no one has responded.
am I a leaper or what??
All I wanted was a little help

I don't think that anyone means to offend you, but perhaps we don't have an answer to your particular situation. Atleast I don't.

I have an idea; why don't you only give people 11 hours and 7 minutes to respond and then criticize everyone for not helping.

How about you do a search? There was a huge write-up by Aldive on adding a filter and a cooler.

have you done a search yet? if not, try it. look for aldives name he and a bunch of others put a remote spinon filter on their trucks

...and Monmix, and I. There are many people running aux. tranny filters. SEARCH DANGIT!

Why would you need a by-pass for it? A normal oil filter flows 60psi through it, does it not? The simple perma-cool setup works just fine. No need to get over technical.

Not too Offend

The response was too spark a response not to offend.
I needed to get the 411 so I could get the right stuff to ship before the weekend. I usually got quick response but I have been getting zero latley this is not critizism of anyone just frustration on my part.
Thanks for the feedback.

I will call Jegs sales and see if I can get an answer so I can buy something.

Maybe next time Sorry if I have offended anyone I did not mean to this site and the people on it have helped BIG TIME.

No offense takin!!! I have a similar interest and I saw your thread. Believe me, I think folks here are wise enough not to speak about things they don't know about. The last thing you would want are my comments because I don't know what the heck I am talking about when it comes to Trannys. I assume you get a lot of other people here that won't comment if they aren't sure and that 's out of respect for the people that read these threads.

I have about 550 miles on it and the filter and fluid does not look very good.
I am going to change it today. The permacool remote set-ups, do they have any bypass at all? The one that I put in is a parker and I went to the engine lab we have at work and chnged the bypass spring to about 6o-65 psi if the normal operating pressure would have to build to over 80+ psi for the full bypass to kick in.

With an older tranny I think that it should take at least 1000 miles or more to really filter enough to get the results I am looking for, on the other hand it may just magnify the wear that already exist in the trans from the hard liven' it has been through.

I hope this tid-bit helps someone feel free to shoot back I would love any more input.

Thanks,

Please cut the filter open, and let us know what you find. :D
You asked if the Perma-cool setup has a by-pass valve.
The filter head has no by-pass, but the filter itself has a by-pass valve of around 12-14 PSI.
My hydraulic filter head has a built-in 25 psi by-pass valve.
The by-pass valve would only open if there is 25 psi DIFFERENCE between the inlet and outlet of the filter head. One set of instructions I read said that there is 90-130 psi in the tranny lines on most vehicles, even with no restriction (if you just teed into the line with a pressure gauge).
So, if your tranny lines had 100 psi before you installed the filter, there could be 125 psi at the filter inlet and 100 psi at the outlet, if the filter was clogged and the by-pass was forced to open.
If you put in an 80 PSI by-pass, the inlet pressure could conceivably climb to 180 psi before opening the by-pass valve. This might pose a problem if the filter becomes clogged, or the oil is very cold(and thick). Also, I don't think the filter media would stand up to an 80 psi difference. Just my opinion, correct me if I'm wrong...

No problems so far the filter is out but have not had the time to disect it.
The fluid looks alot better but not a huge difference in performance. Still a slight slip but none after running and better response on the freeway.
I have another body with a 15lb bypass I will put that in this weekend a very quick change. I will run it and check with a 200lb pressure gauge and let you know what the range is. I have alot of miles the tranny would give out before it would reach 180 psi.
the cracking pressure would have to be anything over 80 psi and as the back pressure from a clog would open it more as pressure builds, this allows the fluid to go straight through not through the filter media. I hagve 10 micron filter media in mine.
I will keep you posted.

That is kind of funny, That is the same housing I have. I do not have the braided hoses but the same exact setup.

I installed a pressure gauge on my filter head and checked the pressure, both at a cold and warm idle.

Mine read as follows:
Cold idle 40 PSI
Warm idle 20 PSI

These numbers are quite a bit lower than the numbers I got from the instructions from another website. :/

I'll check the pressure. The filter was a little rough but not horrible total of 600 miles on the first 10 micron filter. only about 3 big chunks of crap that could have come from anywhere. I have now rolled over 200,000 miles and need every bit of help and advantage I can get to keep it running. I need to check the vaccuum line to the modulator. OD problems I need a new TC as well.
Summer Project.
How many miles and what kind of driving do you do with the Ex?

Actually, mine is a 2000 f-150 4X4 4.6 litre

It mostly sees highway miles with some city to-from work.
It does see a slide in camper once and a while, and occasionally pulls a boat.
plus it hauls about 6 box loads of firewood a year.

The truck has about 95,000 kms on it (59,000 miles) :8
