reviving an old thread; i need to change my fuel filter soon (well, not "need" but im gonna do it anyway.) i have a haynes, but its about 100 miles from here. im pretty cool with the whole procedure, except relieving pressure in the lines. inertia switch? where is it? what exactly do i do to relieve the pressure? and when im done do i just flip the switch back and start the truck as usual?

thanks.

how much is this tool, i remember when i bought my X i bought a fuel filter to replace the one i have. I couldn't figure out how to get it off, so it went undone and i recently through the filter away.

The picture is for the early explorers. On my 97, the switch is still below the dash, but it is on the far right hand side against the kick panel. I believe if you disconnect the wiring connector from it, it will disable the fuel system. Start the engine and let it run out of pressure (engine quits because of no fuel pressure). Change filter, then hook up the switch again.

I used the valve on the fuel rail to relieve pressure, but you need a fuel pressure gauge to do this.

kontinu1-The tool is pretty cheap, less than $10. You might be able to borrow one from Autozone, but I dont know for sure
