I got 04 Explorer with the 4.6.

I am wondering if anyone ever removed the little intake resonator box on the intake tube before the throttle body? Looks like you can and just put a Plug in there and call it good. ?

Just curious. i couldnt find a aluminum plug really online , but i didnt look too much. Cant be that hard to get a little plug, rip off that resonator and clamp in that plug.

thanks

Yes, Mine has been removed, and there are 2 of them (one is under the intake tube). The only effect removing them has is to increase the noise from the intake. Mine were removed as part of the LPG conversion to my truck - other than that, I had previously removed them, but put them back as the intake sounded silly.

What did you put in the place of the little resonator boxes? Still have them lying around?

Let me know.

Thanks

Resonator boxes are in the bin. I used PVC pipe end caps - just measured the bit that fits into the rubber, and got ones the same diameter.

that would work. thanks for the idea.

Ideally i would like to find a little aluminum plug.

SO you said it sounded bad? Care to describe it?

THanks

I found some billet plugs on e bay. I would use these over a PVC end cap. I would be afraid of that pvc plug coming loose and entering my engine.

Remember what size it was that you used. ( i will eventually get out and measure mine).

thanks

It was (and is again) a really loud, sucking sound - some like it, but it wasn't what I was after. Now that I run a snorkel, the sound is not as loud, so don't mind it too much.

As for size - I think 3/4" or thereabouts. I secured mine with hose clamps so it won't fall in, plus there's a lip to keep it from slipping into the intake anyway.

Thanks for your reply.

I havent looked into the pvc plugs, But i will probably.

I will have to get out there and measure the openings. The smallest i seen them billet plugs was 1inch. There has to be a 3/4 inch ones out there.

Thanks again.

Got a picture of your snorkel set up? I am interested in what it consists of!.

hey jcuz do you have any issues with the soft tube vibrating in the fender? i wanna add a snorkle but i don't know if i have the balls to do it lol

No issues with the snorkel at all! It's great and works really well (looks a bit dodgy, but works well).

I need to take my 2002 EB deep in water. I just installed 265's and will hopefully do a small lift. But my main concern is waterproofing the engine. I built a prototype snorkel (temporarily run through the headlight hole) which I will improve over time. What else do I need to do to the engine to help make it run better in deep water? Are there exhuast hoses, are there computers, are there things I need to do with the plug wires? Advice please - thanks.
