what is involved in this? just cuttin it off and putting on a new pipe in place of it? every thread didnt have what i was looking for, so id there performance gains (prob not) and what is the sound dif coming out of the pipe?

Yes you just cut it off and replace with a new section of pipe.Your best bet is to just have a new tailpipe made at a muffler shop rather than putting a small piece in place of the resonator. All the resonator does is make the exhaust quieter. You might not evennotice it.
 






I doubt that you will hear any difference in sound with the stock exhaust. If you have to pay someone to cut it out and install some pipe, you may want to go ahead and replace the stock muffler with an aftermarket muffler. Then you'll notice a difference in sound, power and maybe gas mileage.
 






I would definately go with custom piping ( 2 1/2" ) as well as a good muffler; ie, a cat back syatem. You will love it.

Older Exs had a problem with the resonator rusting out leaving two perfectly good pieces of pipe just hanging there. A few bucks for a piece of pipe (swaged to go over the ends of what you got) can buy you a couple or three years......
