you probably wanna remove it from the engine.

i thought you werent supposed to really clean these things? i heard from someone, some where, that there is a sealent/coating on those things that cleaners will take right off... which down the road causes problems.

i dunno, ive always dipped and cleaned 'em in kerosene.

use gloves, kerosene burn takes years to go away haha.

I always clean mine while attached to the intake seems to work for me, However, I am sure you could do a much thorough job by removing the TB completely.

Good luck .........

the sticker on my TB said do not use a TB cleaner on the OUTSIDE of the TB. My dumb ass read the directions on the can which said to remove the air tube and spray the flap, open the flap, scrub w/ toothbrush and wipe dry, reinstall air tube. I still gotta put the seafom in and we should be set

Well. it appears that I was not cleaning the rear of the throttle plate by this method. ( http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139457 )

I now have to say you need to remove the TB to do a proper cleaning.
