Repair or scrap

Recently I posted that the engine went in my 99 Explorer- yet to be diagnosed but mechanic feels from the metalic and flaky oil- probably timing chain.

first inclining was to replace the engine- as I really loved the car. However as ive found its not easy to source in Australia - as there are not so many here as obviously in the States.

Before I commit to this though can anyone advise me- prior to the engine giving out - I noticed the O/D light flashing. Id planned to have it checked - but didnt - should have had my head checked as well. Seemed to flash sporadically so I didnt give it the respect it deserved

My question is -now that I have found a replacement engine- from a 97 limited - I am wondering if when changed over- if ill then encounter transmission problems- re : the O/D flashing light - or whether this was a fore warning of things to come with the engine.

Not much you can do in the middle of nowhere in the pouring rain

Anyway - I love the car- but need to think practically
should I replace the engine - and assume this should take care of what triggered the O/D flashing light
or - scrap the car- which I cant even get my head around at the moment- but given the current market value of the vehicle- I dont want it to end up a money pit

You might have transmission problems too...

I would hook up a scanner and see what the code was,can you get the tranny from the engine donor vehicle also?

x2 on the scanner. flashing OD light could be the difference between a possible transmission overhaul or something as simple as resetting the computer. Find out if there are any fellow Aussies on here - if they are like us up in the states they may have Explorers parked 4 deep
