I have a 93 XLT that I bought four years ago and has been suffering from somewhat sluggish performance for the last couple of years. I added a KKM Tru Rev kit which helped, and a BBK 66 mm throttle body which helped more. Recently, the performance started to get worse with lack of acceleration above 45 miles an hour. I cleaned that MAS which helped some, but acceleration was still not what it had been in the past. I though my trans might be going bad with what some members have experienced with the A4LD. The trans fluid was bright red and full even after a flush 16,000 miles ago, so I thought the trans was probably ok. After doing a search through google for my year Explorer, it showed me a site on MSN carpoint that said the Fuel Pressure Regulator for this year often goes bad. I decided to replace it considering the mileage on my vehicle, 82,000 miles. I have never gotten more than 13 miles a gallon with my Explorer, so I though that was normal. Mileage increased about 20 miles per tank full after cleaning the MAS, though. After replacing the Fuel Pressure Regulator, it feels like I have a new truck. The idle is much smoother, the engine revs faster and throttle kick down is much more responsive. The truck actually runs better than when I bough it. I can't wait to see how my gas mileage improves. I will get the splitfire wires and Bosch +4 plugs based on what some of the members here have said about their experineces. This site is great.
