According to Crutchfield, there is no aftermmarket Antenna for a 98 Ford Explorer. Is this true? They said you need to get a OEM Antenna. I had planned on trying to get a shorter one, if possible.

I believe I need to replace my Antenna because certain stations fade in and out or do not come in at all. My other 2 cars (a 98 and 06), recieve the stations clearly. I know it is not the HU because I just put a brand new Pioneer in.

I have a shorty for my 03. I don't use it, but I got it from pepbyz.

advanced auto parts has an antenna for 7 bucks, and pep boys has one for 13. both are different sizes and they screw onto the factory screw mount. or you can get a whole different antenna that replaces the factory one mount and all. the reason crutchfield doesnt list one is because of the extensive work it requires to replace one. if you look they do have a universal one but again it has to be remounted. i havnt changed mine yet but i plan to in the near future. i have an old power antenna from a saab that im gonna be puting in when the wheather gets better. too dang windy here right now

So with what you said, it is possible to put a short stumpy rubber one on? Will the short one get worse reception than a long one?

Reception on mine was not affected, but I only used it for a day or so... the only thing about the stumpies is that everybody wants them and they can't be secured to your vehicle.

exactly why i wanna replace mine with a power antenna.

also reception is only as good as the radio thats recieving it. just cause one cars radio gets good reception doesnt mean another one will.

every radio has a reception gain and unless the radios are the same then the gain is gonna be different. if you know the make and model of the radio you can look up the fm gain and see if its good compared to other models.
