Replacing HU & Sub

I have a 1998 Eddie Bauer with the Mach audio system, recently my sub blew. I'm trying to replace it but I don't want to lose the trunk space, i looked into the MTX thunderform but i don't want to spend that much. first, i guess i should find out how big the sub is that i have? i've heard 6.5" to 8" so i dunno? also, if i get another aftermarket sub, will it fit into the old subs place easily and work properly? and then second, i'm going to replace the HU but i wanted to know if there's any 2-din mp3 players out there? and if so how much? any recommendations would be great also. thanks!

I want to know also, can you just swap the stock sub outta there? How would that sound?

someone posted a thread a couple weeks ago about swapping the facory sub with a radioshack sub.
there are other companies that makes small subs that should match up (kicker, JL, RF).

the earlier explorers had a 6.5" subwoofer, but yours should be 8"

eh. if i was gonna do it i'd go ahead and get a good sub HU and amp. you can still do this on a budget. i discovered an awesome electronics store this week, FRY'S... they sell last years stuff at rock bottom prices. If there's one anywhere near you, you should check it out.
