I'm replacing my front window after my car got broken into and I'm to the point where I need to get out the rivets. What tools do I need and how do I go about doing this?

Just drill the rivets out. Its usually the only way to remove them.

Well I've been drilling for a little bit now, with a regular drill bit and a dremel, and no progress seems to be happening. Is this just something that takes time?

Use the cutting weel or a grinding stone with the dremel i found that was the best way to get them off

The rivits have a steel center ( manderel ) and an alumnium body. Getting the manderal out of your way will greatly increase your progress.

This is the WORST design in the automotive industry.
I would like to meet the guy at Ford that decided to rivit on the glass and door handels and kick him dead square in the shin.

i think the kick sould be located a bit high and to the center a bit. ford must have stock in the glass industry or glass coverage insurance company. i saw the rivets and just called glass co. and had them do it. only cost me $35.00.

Well I finally got both after about a couple hours. Should I just replace them with a nut and bolt when I get the new window?

This is a great thread. I got a fix-a-ticket for the tint on my front windows. Am I going to take it off.?.? Hell no, I'm going to go to the junk yard, pick up a couple spare windows, swap em out, get the ticket signed off, and swap the tinted ones back in. There is no way I'm going to get this tint job removed. It's way to nice.

when i did mine i borrowed a rivet gun from work and used rivets again

AS much as I hate to say it.
Put rivits back in.
They are more reliable.
In addition, if I am not mistaken, I seem to recall a clearance issue one time I tried bolts.
