Hey everybody I have a 2008 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer

I'd like to reprogram my explorer keys. My ex wife has been threatening to come steal my explorer at night while I'm sleeping and I just want to make sure that she can't do so.

I have one key and she has the other. I know that I will have to get another key to do any kind of programming but what I'm wondering specifically is if there is a way to wipe out the old codes and have newly coded keys that only I would have access too.

I don't want to pay for a complete rekey. The only thing I want to make sure of is if she gains access to my explorer that her key will not start it up.

Pretty sure this can be done at the dealership but I would rather not pay them to do it if it's something I can do on my own for 1/4 of the cost.

There is no indication in my 2006 manual that you can do what you are trying to do. You even have to have two working keys to program any additional ones (up to 8) or take it to a dealer. With one working key, the dealer can provide a second OR in the case that you have none (which is in essence what you would have to have them do) the dealer can erase the embedded code and provide new keys.

I am a new owner of a 2006. I have two working keys, but this posts reminds me that I need to get a third key and program it before I should happen to lose one of the two I currently have.

Go to the dealer for a new second key.
The process of programming the new key will also reprogram your first key.
After that procedure only these both keys will work.
I got this done for free even here in Germany.

Blank keys can be had for $20 here. My local dealer wanted $80 for the key and $120 to program it!

For the programming they have to connect their laptop to your car And follow the instructions on the screen. That will last about half an hour. Most of the time is for waiting.

Hidden Kill switch, Problem solved! Even if she tries to take it it wont start! Heck let her steal it then when you prosecute she will be out of you life doing time for Grand Theft Auto!

.....Hidden Kill switch, Problem solved!.....

The best idea. Shouldn't be hard to do without a lot of expense. That still does not solve his single key situation, however. With only one key, he'll still have to go to the dealer to get a spare key programmed.

This is why I want to get a third key set up while I am still in possession of a pair of working ones.

Right. If your last key gets lost you will have a real problem!
