Hello!

I'm hoping I can get some insight into my current predicament. When I put the car into reverse it engages, but then when I hit the gas the engine revs and will not move unless I gun it. It's almost like the e-brake is engaged but when I put it into neutral or drive it rolls forward just fine. Later today I'm going to have a buddy meet me so I can push the car out of my parking spot to see if it drives normally. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Thank you for the reply!

It's a 2WD and I actually have a bit more info. I was able to put it into neutral and push the car into the street. Once in the street I put it in drive and experienced the same problem. Hitting the gas with resistance and only if I gun it will it move, it sounds bad and screeches about 6 inches at a time.

Thank you!

Awesome will do! Question, if I'm able to push it freely in neutral wouldn't that mean it's not a problem with the parking brake? Looking up info on how to check the bands :)

Since you were able to push it by hand, I'd say that pretty much rules out a sticking brake(s).

Have you checked the fluid level? It sounds like its having a hard time building up the needed pressure, and revving the engine builds pressure. How long has it been since it had a fluid/filter change?

One piece of advice: DO NOT take the van to AAMCO. They will say it needs a rebuild no matter what is wrong. I've had multiple experiences with them, all bad. For example, they told me I needed a $2,600 rebuild on my 1997 Sable at 60,000 miles. It turned out to be a $20 speed sensor and the car is still going, now past 200,000 miles, on it's original (un-rebuilt) trans (with another owner, I regrettably sold it a few years ago).

In relation to that, do not let Jiffy Lube or any other chain store do a "flush" on the transmission. You MUST change the filter during the service and they don't do that. I've seen several Aerostars, Explorers, etc. have transmission problems within a few hundred miles of having a "flush" without filter change.

Try to find an independent transmission shop or a Ford dealer if you are unable to diagnose or repair the problem yourself.

Wow, quick answer. I have no idea! I'm gonna spend all weekend looking at that. Thank you so much for the tips. Will get back on here to share any info I happen to come upon.

Thanks again!

Just looked at my post, the beginning almost sounds sarcastic, nooo way was that my intention, that sentence was supposed to be combined...."quick answer, I have no idea!"haha Seriously thank you for the tips!

No worries, heh heh. :)
