Hi there i have an 08 explorer 4.0 v6 and right now only have a magnflow muffler and tip on it and was wondering would taking the resonator off do anything like make it sound deeper or what thanks.

The resonator is there to "tune" the exhaust and cut down the cabin drone. My experience with resonators (OEM and aftermarket) is that it does work wonders to keep the drone to a minimum in the cab while toning down the outside sound just a tad as well. I recently removed an aftermarket resonator so that I could enjoy a bit more rumble on the outside, and right away my wife noticed the difference inside (I sure did). I hadn't told her that I removed the resonator. She thinks the sound difference is entirely related to a recent header install. :D

It's up to you whether you'll like the drone or not. Resonators aren't very restrictive so having one won't hurt performance that much. If you don't like it without, you can always put one back in later.

well right now i have a 14" magnaflow muffler with stock resonator and want to change to a magnaflow cat-back system with a 22" muffler but with the kit the resonator comes off.

If I'm not mistaken, a 22" muffler is quieter than a 14" one, so you may not notice much of a difference overall anyhow.

I just cut the resonater off my 06 V6 with a flowmaster 40 under it and I hear not sound difference inside or out. Also..performance has not changed at all. Just my opinion.

Usually people cut the resonator off when they have a larger V8 and want to get more rumble that is suppressed by the exhaust. One of the more popular removals is for the 5.7 Dodge Hemi engine as it gives a more recognizable "Hemi sound."

So you may want to research whether you will get the same results with the 4.0 V6. I personally don't think you would get a deeper sound as the noise just isn't there to be restricted, but that's just my own oppinion.

yep like he said i got a v8 awd 1997 explorer and i like it with it off. adds a nice rumbel and i did not get a lot of feed back in to the cabin

No resinator! When I had my exhaust done, I kept it on at first. I was disappointed when I picked it up so I had them remove it as well. At that point, it sounded the way I was looking for it to sound.
