Just how far do you want to go with the weight reduction? How about vinyl or lexan windows, strip out all carpet and rhino line the bare metal, remove all plastic trim from sides.remove those heavy stock seats and get racing seats, fiberglass doors, fenders, remove AC compressor, tubed bumpers, I must have taken at least 40 pounds per door out of mine. If that's not enough, chop the top and then put in a cast iron 302 with aluminum heads. You'll have more aftermarket high performance stuff then you know what to do with.

yea i took out the back seats today and it feels better, i'll replace the front to with lighter ones when money is availible the bumpers are allready gone and so is the hood i'll also look in to the lexan windows and removal of the a/c

WOW you are serious. You need to post pics of this. Is this a daily driver?

hell yes it's a daily driver lol she doesent look too pretty anymore but i'll take pics and post tomarrow ^_^

Um you have hit a wall? because based on that list you have alot more to do!
headers, TB, MAS, chip, gasket match intakes, etc.

If you want to make power from a OHV 4.0L get it to pump air (intake exhaust) then get it to tune itself for the new air (computer).

Next step is gearing the truck IMO, 4.10's with stockish tires = scream off the line.

If you want to make real power, it is made in the heads and a good cam (.410 grind, new lifters, pushrods, dual springs, etc) Head porting really opens up a OHV 4.0L.

Electric fan and AC compressor delete will free up some ponies, if you can keep it cool.
Synth fluids in the rear end, trans and engine will help free up power as well.
Shift kits are available and or a performance clutch
Your stock wheels are heavy heavy
ditch the interior and glass if you are serious about this, heck take the front fenders off too since you have no hood!

Put your hood back on dude, or get a fiberglass, run a cold air tube to your filter and shield it from underhood heat.

I can see why you took the front bumper off = wreck :)

also be prepared to spend spend spend getting real power from a OHV 4.0L = internal parts/ heads = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

yea i had a little trouble with a pole lol partying+speed=oh **** whered that pole come from!!!

alright i agree money is an issue, i would be completly willing to put in a new cam and so forth put i've looked around alot on the internet and havent found that many engine parts for the ohv don't know if i'm just a dumbass or if i'm just not seeing what i need. also new tires are being umm gathered

shift kits? it's a collum shift automatic i thought a **** kit refered to a manual i was looking at a chip that enabled quicker more defined shift points for an automatic but don't know how much good that will do

synthetic fluids have already been added

i'm looking for a cumputer or mod chip for the 4.0 right now but i can't find exactly what i need

as for the other engine mods i'm not very proficent with those advanced mods and that may take some time to get done eventually yes i would like to do them because i am serious about what i'm doing but somthings have to wait sadly

i'm thinking about doing what my buddy did with his v6 firebird he rigged up two leaf blowers using irrigation ducting and a switch under the gas pedal this basically acted ike a small turbo he dyno'ed it and ran 50 more horses to the wheels he had about 6 psi runnign through it so a intercooler wasent needed yet i'm going to test this out and see how it works on my ohv i'll update ya on how that goes

thanks for the idea's theyre greatly apreciated not alot of people around here are looking for speed out of an explorer so they don't have many ideas

cam and headers will make a world of difference. also, you can pull heads off a 95-97 4.0l have them ported and them bolt them onto your motor. Not only will they flow better but the smaller combustion chamber on the 95-97 heads will give you 10:1 compression. That, along with cam and headers and a chip should help you out in the power department.

These guys made some good points. Also get rid of more weight. Removing weight has a direct impact on speed and acceleration. In my old racing days when they weighed the car compared to the cubic inch the lighter cars with the same cubic inch moved up a class. But they never caught me with my spare drive shaft that was filled with molted lead. HA HA then in the pits we removed it. Like a NASCAR crew chief told one of his team members when he asked about how do we get rid of so many pounds. Answer.....Just get rid of the ounces and the ounces will take care of the pounds. I'm seriously thinking about aluminum heads on my project, thats a whopping 50 pounds off the allready front heavy B11 compared to the back. That's like having a 50 pound sack of potatoes setting on the block, over aluminum. I posted a question about aluminum heads and got some good answers last night. But one guy asked what difference does it make, well, coupled will all the other pounds and ounces I got rid of it makes one hellava difference. Example if I had that same engine in a stock B11 and then one in my lightweight B11. Which one do you thing would kick a$$ in speed and acceleration not counting less strain on drive components not mentioning gas consumtion. In fact they had an expert on MSN home page said the number one thing poeple can do to improve gas mileage was to get rid of weight. I spent a lot of hours just on my doors, (check out my project) They weighed close to 60 # each now there 20 something each. That's another 80# Not counting all the hundreds of pounds I allready got rid of. This mod is not for everyone. I could get rid of more if I took off the roof cage and step rail, but I,m not building a race car. Allthough I,m considering taking off the foot rail. How about your foot rails?

Damn I'm glad I only had 2 cups of coffee this morning or I could of gone on longer

hahaha no foot rail's here but you bet your ass if i had them they would be gone ^_^ i like the 2nd gen header idea i will seriously look in to that

Heads, not headers.

MaximumViolence, do you know if the 95-97 ported head swap will work with the stock tune?

The amount of weight you will loose removing fenders and doors will not make up for the wind drag you will create. Your aerodynamics will be shot all to hell. If you want to improve to-end, for $650.00 you can get the perry's fiberglass front end conversion to convert it to a 95 + like Ricks Ex. the fiberglass will be a lot lighter plus it will cut wind drag a bit. Lowering the center of gravity to cut wind drag under the truck will also help.

As far as engine is concerned, do some good head work and increase the air comming into the engine, better combustion/spark and air escaping the engine. That's the key to more performance. Also, port match the intake manifold and heads for a smoother transition of fuel air mixture into the combustion chamber.

Good luck and when it's done, get some dyno and 1/4 mile run results.

will do

I see your signature shows you removed your catback exhaust. I lost power on my ex when my exhaust fell apart after I bought it. When it happened it lost lots of power and was very loud. It just came apart right behind the cat. Maybe you should consider not removing too much backpressure to gair just the right combo. Just some FYI!

Also skip the dual leaf blower setup you mentioned. there is a reason you do not see any car manufacturers using electric motors for forced induction (turbo) hahaha.

If you use the 10:1 compression head be even more careful what camshaft you use.

Modding the OHV 4.0L internally = $$$. There are not alot of parts available.

There is a hydraulic shift kit available for your transmission, not the computer.

the computer tune and/or chip should be done downt he road to maximize all the mods you make to the engine.

Rookieshooter I believe your coffee induced theory = less rotating mass = more free'd up power :)
My 5.0L will get roller tip rockers and aluminum heads. hahaha the 5.0L I pulled this weekend is my builder, my dilema is when its all said and done (330 displacment, fully built) which truck do I put it in??
