I want to say thanks in advance for any feedback given.

Im wanting to do a quick check of a reverse band.
I removed the reverse servo and inserted a screwdriver to test the reverse band. (The reverse servo pin looked great no wear.)
There is spring tension but my question is how much action and tension should there be?

To me , of what i can compare it to is like pressing on a button of a ink pen.
Very little tension and moves very little.(i didnt want to press to hard and break something)

Ive searched high and low on the net for an answer to my question with no result.
Only results found was to check for broken pieces and or if there is spring action.

This transmission came from a donor car of a junkyard.
It has 125,000 miles which is half of what mine has.
I know my original tranny was shot( no reverse, no 1st back pressure, fluid smelled like burnt vomit, trans pan full of garbage).
I checked the pan on the donor, there was no metal, fluid looked good and didnt smell bad.

I have not pulled valve body yet, i do have a bonded gasket to replace the oem gasket.

If i do have to replace the reverse band should it be replaced with a heavy duty one?
Ive found replacement bands that are lined with kevlar and one with carbon.
Any recommendations?

Sorry for so many questions, im just trying to cover my bases.
Ive done engine work, just never tackled a transmission.
Ive got all needed tools and a 5r553 ATSG manual.
