Reverse Indiglow Gauge Install

Hey everyone, I just finished installing my Reverse Indiglow Gauges in my truck about an hour ago, and I have to say that It totally changes the interior of the truck. They were not as bad to install as I thought they would be. When I was putting them in, I could not get the 3 tach screws out so I put a pliers on the screw and just riped it really hard and the whole tach cluster comes out. So with the tach cluster out it is really easy to put on the gauge, and you can take all of the clusters out exept for the MPH one. Taking them out made installing the guages alot easier. The total install time only took about 4 hours, and that included coming inside to warm up every 30 min, eating, and smoke brakes. Not too bad. OOO, and I also put the carbon fiber overlay on it. Just one thing. I have the exact same gauges and after 1 month, the power inverter box melted from the inside so the gauges would not light up. Procarparts.com where I got it has no warranty and wanted $5 less than what I paid for them just for the inverter. I hope yours work great because they look good, but just to let you know. I just left them because I am not paying that much and having them go out again.

I got the carbon fiber overlay on ebay. It just sticks on over the gauges with 3m adhesive backing. It was really easy to put on.

Jr91x where did you plug in your wires, I have mine installed for more than a year with no problems. i pluged mine into all those wires behind the cluster.

Mine was wired to the light switch. I had them installed for 1.5 months then one day I turned on the lights and it just quit. I looked at the box and it was bowed out.

Yo jr91x the light switch is to much power for the gauges, the location to plug in the two wires is behind the cluster into the wiring harness into the black and red wires that r next to eachother.

My directions said not to plug them into the light switch, I got mine off ebay.

thanks man. I guess I will try this again. I got my off e-bay as well. It came from procarparts.com and I didn't get any instruction. I will get a new one and try that. I thought it should go to the lights so they turn on when you turn the lights on.

I also wired mine to the light switch. Im not sure if thats what the instructions said to do or not, because I managed to lose the instructions before I installed the gauges.

hey Audiodude, you might want to try wiring the way xmod was saying unless you want to chance it. Looks great though. I have the chrome and I think the carbon fiber looks better

I agree with the carbon fiber look. I went to E-Bay and all they have are the chrome ones. I think I will pass on it and wait till a carbon comes available.

When you say wiring harness, what exact part are you talking about? I'm getting read to install my new ones today, dumping the old ones, again was told light switch, but I would rather these things live longer. Just confused on what you mean by wiring harness, thanks for the help.

Draft I have a 91 X i'm not really sure about the sec gen X, but in the first gen the harness is right behind the cluster. The harness connects to the cluster to power everything. It has a bunch of wires going into one big harness cant miss it, look for the black and red wires that are next to each other towards the ends of the harness, once you have them you could either side your gauge wires in and reconnect it like I did, or you can cut the wires solder them or whatever you want, but just easier to slide them in.

Aw, I getcha, I'm just hoping I can nail this down in a good 4-5 daylight hours at my friends house while I have the chance, the wiring is the only thing really bugging me right now, but I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the info. BTW, there's about 3 "harnasses" going into the gauge cluster, one on the left, and two on the right I believe.. anyone in particular, or?

Sorry for the wait, first gen only have one harness with tons of wires. My guess is that ford just split these wires into three with less wires. I would still look for the red and black wires that are next to eachother, my guess is that the wires are on all three harnesses, I say pick one of the harnesses and hook your gauges up, I would pick the middle just because.

i need new bulbs in my dash, but these look better, do you need bulbs in as well? or is it bright enuff with just the kit?

The gauges are very bright, but the bulbs give light to the needles and odometer, so just replace them while you have everything out of the way.
