Review of console repair kit

Please bear with me, this is my first review of a product and I am not trying to give too much away about the instillation due to the vendor of this product having it password protected on his server only allowing access to people who purchase the product.

I ordered the console repair kit from www.FixYourFord.com for $24.99. The kit came with one page of instructions on how to get online to see the rest of the instructions on installing the kit. Along with the instructions I recieved a some precut vinal. The instructions were clear with many pictures on the website. When installing the vinal appeared to be cut a little short and the screws could not hold evrything in place at the front of the console. If the tape lets go, I will have to take it apart and retape it again. Also what is not readally apparent is that there will be some minor folds along the front of the lid so it will not look exactly like the previous vinal that was on there. I was dissapointed by this becasue after looking at the pictures on the website, it appears that the vendor attempts to hide the fact tha there will be some folds. The color match was almost perfect even though my vinal is about 9 years old and faded.
In all I would not reccomend purchasing this product if you want a perfect replacement, There will be some minor folding in the front.

I'd imagine that part from Ford is less than what the guy charges for that. I haven't really looked into it yet though, so I can't say for sure. What a lot of people do is just go to a upholstery shop and get it done there for pretty cheap.

How does the thickness of the new vinyl compare to the old one?

I've been looking at the services on ebay that will recover one for about $20, but can't find anyone that's used them. This sounds like a good option.

Holy lord they're that much? I could get a new one made in gold for that My neighbor fixes a lot of ford trucks with that problem, he made it seem like a cheap part. Maybe I'll get some nice leather on there.

The vinal that was sent to me is the same thickness that Ford uses.

I just used the www.fixyourford.com piece.

All in all, it's pretty good. I didn't use the tape, however. Instead, I used 1/4" staples. As for the round section in front, I used a hair dryer and slowly worked around it.

For $25, I'd say it's definitely worth it.

I just sort of laugh when I see that site, they're charging like $20+ per repair instruction set for the same instructions that a lot of us post for free here. $23 to fix an exterior door handle? Makes the $20 elite membership seem like peanuts with all the repairs you have access to here. EF for the win!

Agreed, I googled "explorer console repair" and this was the first thing to pop up. Say no to overpriced stuff!

I took my center console lid to an auto uphostery place and they charged $30 to recover it. Did a better job than the factory.

If I'm posting in the worng place...forgive me. I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport with the removable center console. My question is....can the "bag" be replaced with a rigid console and better cup holders?

I offer a recover service that is cost the same to replace the lid, however if you are not local the shipping will get you.

Yes the consoles are interchangeable, I will look for the thread but I know that there is a conversion DIY thread around here
