I recently did the fog light mod on my 2000 4x4 XLT and i thought i would share my experiences to give back for all the help you guys have given me. I based it loosely off of PghBill's post 79 in this thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31137&page=4

While performing this mod i came across a difference in our wiring. I guess after the '98 model year this was changed.

All the steps are the same, with one key difference. The fog lamp relay in my truck was located closest to the front of the truck, as in this picture: (front of truck to the left)

There was no Dark Blue/ Light Green wire on my truck, instead there was an orange jumper wire from the fog lamp isolation relay to the fog lamp relay. Power to this wire is delivered only when the parking lamps/ low beams are on. The exact procedure that is highlighted by PghBill is followed, only supplemental power from the washer relay is fed into the fog lamp relay side of the cut orange wire, and the other side is capped with a bullet connector to maintain the ability to return it to the stock setup.

Good Luck

does anyone know if this is the same for the 04?

Hey thorney, you know you need an ebsco log-in to view that, right?

(2000 XLT) I just cut off pin #2 in my fog lamp relay and the fogs stay on with high beams. I have replacement relay from junkyard explorer if needed to return to stock.
