Sometimes at slow speeds my tachometer will "rev" to over 3000 rpm. I have to take my foot off the accelerator allow it to slow then reapply gas and it usually takes care of the issue. This has caused the wrnch lite to come on a time or two. Also traction control has come on a couple of times by itself ??? Are these issues related to the (i forget what it's called) memory(?) Computer?

Sounds like your transmission is slipping.

Is your engine revving up and it’s shown on the tach...or is the needle moving without the engine revving?

UPDATE : After having revving and hard shifting issues for some time and WRENCH light coming on again I finally decided to take it to Autozone and have them plug in a code reader. The gave me a printout that said my issue was with shifting solenoids. Took it to a local Transmission shop on Feb18. Tranny rebuild, new(used) driveshaft and new bushings $3900 and change ! Got it back 3 days later only to have to take(limp) back immediately because my wrench & engine light came on. They said my computer was fried and they tried to fix it(on their dime). They ordered CPU(?) from NY&TX neither worked. Finally ordered from FORD and couldn't get it to work so they took it to a Local Ford Dealer and they had it fixed the next day. I finally got my truck back after about 35 days after Feb18. It drives great but Wrench light still comes on. Thought it might be for an oil change because mileage was right at that time. So changed oil but light still comes on . I reset life back to 100% so I AM AT A LOSS. OH...I did take it back to Autozone and he plugged in but got NO codes??? I'm going to either call the Ford dealership that worked on it or my regular guy at Christian Brothers Auto and ask about it.

I'd press the gas peddle and it was like it was in neutral. No acceleration but the tach would go beyond 3000rpm.

Just to update. Had to take my '08 ST back to the Transmission shop. They had put the wrong torque converter in. They made it right and my Truck has been driving fine ever since. I do have a daily fear of that wrench light coming on again though.
