Can't wait for this to get here. But not exactly the best day...It's my wifes Birthday. "Oh honey it's so sweet of you to have that package scheduled for my Birthday. The box is so heavy, must be my new commercial style mixer''? Uh uh, wel,welll...no not exactly.
Be a whole lot better if it gets here before she gets off work ;)

36" from center of bolt to outside of tire, I'll get 20" of vertical travel.
All I did was to put a bolt on end of heim in a vice and cycled it.
Have to see how this works out on the trails/rocks.
As you would guess there is zero bind.

This amount of travel will put the tire up against the top inside of wheel well.

 But I'm running out of popcorn. What I paid for shipping, I could have bought all the tubing and hardware to finish the 3pt.
But once I receive the Atlas everything else goes to the backburner untill it's been tested.
Going to miss the 1350 with the built slip yoke eliminator. This case has been in this B2 since the day my friend Paul bought this truck back in 84. I'm the second owner.

my wife doesn't like to cook that much - so I don't have to worry about a mixer . I do have to worry that she wants a new walther Slim 9
http://www.walther-pps.com/

Now besides from being one of the funniest posts on this thread, it may have just saved my marriage. It's that Kitchen aid mixer that she wants.
Now that 9mm does raise some serious questions. And if no one hears from you in a long long time would it be allright if I make her an offer on it. She may just want to get rid of it cheap. No offense mind you.

Lol

glad I could help a fellow hotrodder protect his marriage.

my wife actually has a makarov short 9mm right now. she wants to step up to the walther pps or the new sig slim 9mm once she gets her CCW. I may have to do that to get the 35's for my rig:D

I cant shoot the Makarov as its too small for me - perfect for my wife. she shoots better than me :salute:

After careful consideration, I thought that I might just go out and get her one of those Kitchen Aid mixers.

I knew when she saw it that there would be no problem with the delivery of my Atlas this thur. I had her where I wanted her. She even asked "What would you like me to make for you in my new mixer"?
And I humbly said "What else but my favorite, Heim salad, but just a Tab amount".

Oops posted about same time. I'll stick with my Super Black Hawk.

Might I suggest a copy of the wife to english dictionary, found here http://www.cupola.com/html/wordplay/wifespk1.htm

By the by, any one have a cost comparison of kitchen appliances to truck parts? That would be fun to see.

I think you have the ultimate ride there, keep up the good work!

how about this comparison
hmm lets see 2 hours in garage = 20 minute backrub for wife
4 hours in garage = romantic movie the next night - think "The Notebook"- and I have to sit through the whole thing. no surfing on computer
1 day trail ride outing with OHV group = Take wife and daughter to city to go shopping
2 day trail ride outing with OHV group = Take wife and daughter to city and stay with them in store to judge daughters clothes.

that math seems off, god i hope so anyway

Hmmm, seems to me that life is eaiser when your single. At least it's cheaper!

Rick, maby I missed this, but are you powder coating anything any more? I'm not looking for anything, but everything looks painted latlely. And are you still going for a black/red color scheme?

Sounds like hell. Better man than I.

might have exagretted a little bit ;) plus she keeps me very happy :D

unheem!
back on track- ricks wheres the atlas pictures?

also I must have missed why you picked to build a modified 4 link instead of a true three upper mount that has 1 link. doesn't two upper links induce more adjustment into the mix? I would think a single upper link from a solid inverted Y would be stronger in the end.

The powder coating oven that Jack and myself built is in his garage about 20 miles away and with his new job it seems he's never home.
Black will be back with red trim. Both my son and daughter are pushing for all black. I would love to get it done for the largest truck show in the country up in Carlise Pa this summer. Got an email from the director of the show to see if I want to register for the first time all Ford parade that will be limited to 400. The parade will go through downtown Carlise.
Carlise is a blast, just to speak with all the gear heads and 4x4 guys makes the trip worthwhile.

Just added..The paint will be Summit Hot Rod Black. Just plain nasty looking.

Pictures will be here as soon as it is dropped off at my house this Thur. At least that's what UPS says about the time. I'll check with the tracking number to see if it's changed.
I may not answer your question right but the upper Y will only have 3 mounting points...one on each frame and a single mounting point with only one bolt at rear. There will be only 3 bolts connecting the Y
Even though there are two heims stacked on top of each other, The true pivot point is a single vertical point drawn thru the middle of the 3/4" bolt.
I'll adjust the two uppers so that each one will put just a little preload on the bolt.
When you look at this Y you see both links converging just before the small piece that is going noth and south.
My idea wether right or wrong will have the Instant center directly in the center of the bolt not 6 or 8" in front. That little north south pices creates a dog leg that does not put the extreme amount of force directly to the center axis of the bolt as well as a true V. Picture the bolt at the bottom ofthe V. And let's say 600 #s pushing on the left angled leg towards pumkin as opposed to the same amount of latteral force being applied to the left side leg of a Y configuration. So now that angle about 6 or so inches in front of the pivoting point on the pumkin does not take the force directly to the direct center of the bolt.
Bottom line. Probably does not amount to a pile of beans anyway one way or the other but it sounds good LOL
But you just gave me an idea where I might just add brackets for an upper two link configuration. Hmmm.

Getting closer.

On another note, there is something black in the bottom of my fuel cell. One of the benefits of being able to see into tank so easy.
Guess I need to go out and get it out. It is stuck to the in-tank filter.

Good answer rick
From what I have seen of upper three links before your able to brace it better with a Y link top.
\-/

I think with your upper link setup you are actually weaker than a normal Y-link setup. You only have the two links going from frame to axle. Instead of a swing arm that is cross braced so that the force is able to transfer between the mounting points on the frame. Making the upper link mount a point that is not able to move side to side. Only up and down.

It may not matter right now with your weight of vehicle and the power that you are putting down now.

It might matter in the future with your gear reduction of the Atlas and if you take it in the rocks.

Good point. May have to do that. Be simple just to put a brace from side to side like your diagram and still keep the one bolt thru both heims. I'll try it first like it is and check on latteral movement of axle.

Or Might just make two more tabs, one on either side of the single bolt just in case it does need to be attached in two seperate locations. In fact while the axle brace is not yet welded on the axle that is just what I'm going to do.
Then it would be no big deal to unbolt the single bolt and then spread the two links out a few inches further if out. Again starting with the one bolt.
Having multiable hook-up points is a good idea anyway in tuning any linked suspension.
Then with the top two spread out \ / this would give a 4 pt |\ /| ?
Then there would be no piece up top going from side to side either -

One thing for sure, if I don't try it both ways I'll never know how each works and then it's just one of those things one could disagree with untill the cows come home like so many things on the webb.
