I have a 2001 Explorer XLS and I was rearended by a drunk about a month ago. I just got the vehicle back and, while everything seems tight and in good order(thank God no suspension or frame damage, just sheet metal) noticed I could hear a little more "road noise" from the area where the jack is stored(the entire qtr panel was replaced). My question is, behind the panel to access to the jack, should there be any sound deadening material on the metal that is the top of the wheel well( same material on the back of the removeable panel)? I can't remember if it was there prior to the accident or not. I think with some sound deadening material, my extra road noise would go away. The reason I ask is because if it should be there, then I can just take it back to the body shop and have them put it in.

I just had a look at my 2000 XLT(U.Kspec) and there is some sound insulation on top of the wheel arch and a square of about 4 inces on petrol(sorry GAS)filler cover and under the jack.

No it's not like on the back of the removable cover it's thin about 1-2mm thick and stuck like s**t to a blanket

Thanx guys. At the shop, they put some extra in, saying it probably should have ben there. It helped, as it is pretty much back to normal.
