This is my Prob...

01 Explorer Sport 118K

I have an Aggressive Tire Road noise without the aggressive tires...the noise is heard when straight and turning right...when I turn left the noise almost completely goes away....noise happens at all speeds...

What I've done so Far

Replace Drivers Side Wheel Bearing Assembly

Noise is Still heard with no change in volume at all

Any Suggestions?

It's the halfshafts, you should probably replace both of them while you have the truck in the shop and save yourself the trip

Yea I was thinking the shafts but I wasn't sure and didn't want to spend any more money without asking another person....

Anybody have and hints to changing out the shafts? Is there a keeper pin thats nearly impossible to get to or anything of the sort?

Thanks agin for the help

Pretty simple job, the easiest way I found was you disconnect the tie rod and upper control arm but leave the lower arm in place, make sure you also loosen the abs sensor wire from the body mount clips to allow play. Then you pull out the hub assembly (it's only three screws). After that you should be able to pull the outer joint out of the steering knuckle and simply pry the inner joint from the diff with a prybar (dont damage the seal). No pins or anything, it just slides together.

Whats the best way to protect the seal...just a piece of wood to the pry spot? Any suggestions?

Thanks
JON

I haven't looked at it yet...I did the wheel bearing at like 10pm and just haven't gotten around to looking at it yet...

Replace Bearing and Axle Noise still there...

Okay I've Rotated the tires and replaced the drivers side axle and the drivers wheel bearing.... and I still have the noise....I'm guessing that it's something in the Diff since thats the last piece of rotational metal that I haven't replaced....the axle boot had a tear and was leaking grease so I was sure that was it...but no....I was sure it was one or the other since I only heard the noise when I turn right or go straight if I turn left enough to make the car lean it goes away....

Anyone have any suggestions besides the Diff

Thanks
JON

did you do the right axle too?

you know what u just described what is wrong with my car perfectly....i just say my car is loud..lol when i turn right tho something is grinding......but that just started the loud noise has been there for a few years
