If any of you are buying parts from local discount auto parts stores w/out checking out RockAuto you're paying too much. For example, Moog upper and lower control arms and moog lower ball joints for my '01 Explorer from Advance (even using their "ccabin" promo code) $262 incl/tax. RockAuto (same parts) w/shipping $179. Autozone's and O'Reilys prices are similar to Advance's but AZ doesn't list Moog and neither offer Advance's promo discounts. This is not a one time thing either, I always use RockAuto if I'm spending significant money on parts and don't need to have it today. Last year I saved almost 50% over Autozone's prices on parts to change the timing belt, waterpump, thermostat, TB tensioner and idler pulleys, upper/lower engine mounts and alt belt on a PT Crusier. All the parts arrived w/in 2 days of ordering and the only problem was the alt belt was a 1/2" too short. I bought the belt I needed locally and RockAuto issued me a refund for their belt (w/out me even having to return it) with no problem. Fast shipping, great customer support and service, same quality parts, great prices. What's not to like?

Fair enough! I will go check that out! I have some expensive fuel components to replace! LOL

While Rock Auto has good prices, and fast shipping, I have bought from them, sometimes the local parts houses havethe parts for very nearly the same price, without the shipping. Bottom line, it pays to shop around.

Shop it and see

You should always shop around, but I haven't looked up anything yet that wasn't 40-50% less on RockAuto. Yes you do have to figure in the shipping charges but it's still a lot cheaper and you're not paying sales tax.

Rock Auto also regularly posts discount codes on this forum, and e-mails them to you after orders. That 5% off isn't much, but hey, it usually covers teh shipping costs.

I use Rockauto a lot, but I will check out Amazon and Ebay looking for free shipping, especially on the heavier items.

The problem I run into with Rockauto the most, are the multiple shipping charges from the diffrent warehouses, if you are ordering alot of things.

Sometimes if I dont need the parts right away, I put them in the shopping cart and check daily. Sometimes they all end up in the same warehouse and only one shipping charge.

I use Rock Auto too. Mainly because they ship to Australia at a resonable price. I love having stuff sent by Fed Ex and having it arrive only 2 or 3 days later. Opening the packages to find fridge magnets and bumper stickers is always a nice suprise too.

Exactly.

It maybe worth looking into checking out twice so you can double your savings with Advance or Rock Auto. I have ordered from both and I don't mind checking out twice to save extra cash sometimes.

Good point. I do this with Autozone Rewards sometimes, but if you try doing it back-to-back you have to wait about 15 mins between transactions. For the stuff I buy locally I always use AZ because of their rewards points.
