Has anyone ever thought about doing a exterior rollcage, one tha gose around the panels of the car.

Anyone got any ideas
I thought that if i had a setup like that it may reduce exspense by saving a little more body if i happened to roll.

Someone had a post of a newer X with an exo cage.... I think it looked like crap, but that's my opinion... they just don't fit well

Really cool, i love it

You want an exo cage? I think they look out of place on an explorer. Also, do ya wheel alot? Cause either an interal or external cage, is gonna be custom and pricy.

Pete, I have seen Jason almost roll his rig a few times. I would say a cage is not out of the question for him.

I am not aware of any tube fabricators for offroaders in town Jason, maybe a guy named Ron 256-0074 at A1 equipment (adress is 108 Rhode Island). I have heard he does good work on trail rigs but dont know if he does cages.

FST down in Phoenix where Rick got his done could probably do it also.

As Brian said I have an interior cage. I thought about an exterior cage and I actually like their looks. The problem is that with a four door Explorer there is no where to put a tube between the front and rear doors without either loosing the use of the rear door or positioning the tube several inches away from the door to allow it to swing open.

The other option which I came up with would be to put a middle support hoop in the Explorer, have the tubing poke through the roof and then tie the rest of the exoskeleton to that.

This sounds like something that iw uold be very intrested in. Is their a number that i can call to talk about ideas and options?

Rick you by any chance have any plans for an exo cage, or know anyone how has. Do you also happen to know anyone who has flipped in a exo cage. I would love to talk to them. Like Brian was saying i play rough so a roll cage would be a great idea.

Any more advice, pointers, or connection would be great.

Thanks alot
Jason

Looks good Brian. It just needs support between the doors. Too much on supported area there.

Love it Brian, it so cool. You can bet on getting a nice fat christmas gift from me. I can't get over it looks perfect.

The issue with the middile not being supported enough. What about putting two bars right through the cab, next to the front driver and passenger seatbelts. i love the spare tire idea.

Brian do you know anyone in town that may do this for me.

oh yeah, i'am going to phoenix in march if you want to come with me that would be cool, or we could drive up seperatley togehter.

Jason

I love it

Jason, i really dont know of anyone that does stuff like that in town. I posted a phone number of a guy up the page a little, I know he does suspension work and other stuff for custom rigs but I dont know if he makes exos. Ask at South West 4WD if they can do it or if they know someone in town. I was in their shop and it did not look like they were setup to do tube work.

A bar might be able to be bent out far enough in-between the doors to still let the doors operate. I dont know how far out it would have to stick out though. Also/or a 1/4" to 3/8" plate could be bolted to the top of the body in-between the door jambs and stick up a little out of the top to tie in the top of the exo. You understand what im saying?, it is kind of hard to explain where exactly im talking about.

Drawing the exo was fun, maybe in a few years i will do something like that to my rig. I am not for sure if i am going to the 4 wheel expo yet, we can talk closer to the time it is. Also i was planning on going to farmington to watch the rock crawling championships that same weekend in march but i may be going to phx instead, i dont know yet.
