i'm thinking about getting a role cage, but i'm not sure how that would work in an explorer. not sure if they even make them without getting somthing custom but if anyone knows of any, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jeff aka Lamah

All of the ones that I have seen have been custom built. I haven't heard of one that was a bolt in. I was contemplating making an external roll cage for mine. I have no idea on the costs.

There was someone a while back who said they found some junked Toyota pickup or something and that the roll bar from that truck fit exactly behind the rear seats. I'm going to search for it when I get back home (at my parents house now). If I can find a cheap bar like that, I might take my rear seats out and put a bar in.

Alec,
The Toyota I think you are looking for is the early ('84-'88) 4Runner. They had a bar behind the rear seat.

Randall,
I too have thought of an exo-cage also. If you do it take lots of picks, I really want to see how it will look.

hrmm. i see. well maybe a roll cage isnt that important then :)

I am thinking something like this:

the part over the hood would be hinged, the part over the windsheild would have enough clearance for the winsheild wipers, and the part covering the rocker panels would flip down to serve as step bars, and back up when driving, and built in rocksliders.

This last one would be if I could find a way to have hinge out doors on the cage, or bolt on pieces that would cover all of the doors except the drivers (so I could get in) or some other idea.

how would you flip them back up after your in the car ? heh

Oh sure, just rain in on my parade. I don't know, maybe the drivers portion is springloaded? Hydraulics? Dash mount electronic controls? As you can see, the posibilites are endless

hehe :)

btw, what size tires and how much of a lift is that ?

er ... guess i coulda just looked at your profile.

what can i say, i'm slow
