Rollover/kill switch below passenger seat?

My neighbor told me that they sold their 1ST gen Explorer becuase of this switch would keep tripping off and prevent from starting. Evidently after a couple of times to the shop and replacement they learned how to reset it but had to do this almost daily to start it. Anyone know what this is about?

The switch location is under the carpet at the forward edge... passenger side. Don't know why it would be a reoccuring problem. I have never had to touch it, but made myself aware of it's location in case mine wouldn't start. All newer vehicles have this feature so as not to feed a possible fire with fuel.

When the replacement does the same thing, you got to think it is a problem with the vehicle side of the electrical connector. Every time they reset it they were just moving the wires a little. Just don't ever go to their mechanic. Things generally have a simple solution if someone takes the time to understand the problem.

I've seen a write-up at www.therangerstation.com where someone described a similar problem with the inertia switch. Doesn't seem to be too common of a problem, but something inside the inertia switch gets worn and it trips too easily. Replacement of the switch should fix that porblem though, unless the shop installed a used switch which has the same problem. Might be worth going over to the rangerstation and reading, though.
