Roof rack bars.

Does the Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition come with bars that fit into the roof rack rails? I never got any with my '06 (new) but I hear they have them.....any help would be truely appreciated........thanks......

My 07 Limited did not have bars when I bought it, but shortly before I drove off the lot the saleman I was working with said he just "found" some I could have for $300. I declined.

Having said all that, I am sure you can pick them up at a dealer, ebay, craig's list, etc... I plan to go up to my local junkyard and inquire if they have a smashed up '07 Explorer and get those lovely bars cheap.

My '07 EB didn't! What's the chance the dealer took them off so that he could charge me (or someone else) for it? I ended up getting a Yakima setup...

They are a dealer installed option and cost about $100. They should be the same for all 06+ Explorers so, don't limit your junkyard explorations to just 07 rigs.

I spent the money on a Yakima instead. I only had to buy the towers because the cross bars from my previous vehicle (Durango) fits both vehicles.

The flat Ford bars aren't as adaptable (or as strong) as the Yak and Thule systems. The go on and off in just a few minutes.

Car and Driver recently suggested the following:

"Any protuberance on a vehicle’s roof, be it a cargo carrier, a kayak, a bicycle, a mattress, or large road kill, will add to the vehicle’s wind resistance. What’s surprising is just how much difference the crossbars between the roof rails make, even with a wind deflector. So if you’re not using that roof rack on a long trip, get it off."

They note about 4% hit to highway fuel economy.

Get the removavle Yak or Thule set up, you won't regret it.
