What is the best way to fix the peeling paint of a roof rack? What is the best black paint for the job?

I took my rack off and removed all the flaky paint. I bought an arosol can of black "Trim" paint at the local automotive place. That was 3 years ago, and it still looks factory new. Be sure to sand it down with fine sandpaper or the sanding marks will show on the finished paint

I used Krylon Fusion black paint and clear coated them on my roof racks almost a year ago and it still looks brand new.

I half assed it and didn't do a good job of prepping it and painted it with Dupli-Color Flat black and it now looks like ass again :D

So I would suggest sanding it really well (I sanded mine not-so-well) and maybe use a clear coat. I did use a good high-fill primer as well. Next time I may also try to get all the old paint off before hand.

lol dont laugh at me but some cheep fine sand papper and good ol 98 cent wallmart spray paint....lol.. ;)

It was the Manager of the body shop at the local Ford dealer that told me they use arosol trim paint on these roof racks. So far my spray can paint job has held up better than the Ford factory finish.

(Funny I only had a problem on the drivers side, passager side was fine)
