Roof rack question.

Hi, I just bought a 2005 Explorer, and just noticed that the roof rack has no cross bars. Was it supposed to come with them, or are they an add-on accessory?

Hello, I too have a 04 with out cross racks,
I assume its an option depending on the level of trim package you have, Ive been looking for a set on Flee-Bay and other sources,
They seem to range in price from around $60.00 too $100.00 US. I,m afraid to think what a dealer would get for a set!,
Also it seems that a sport trac or 2dr sport's are differant. anyone know where i can get a set cheaper? thank Eric

I saw new cars driving around without crossbars, but I just assumed that they took them off for some reason...

I can't believe that "crossbars" is an option with a roof rack...

Yeah, they are getting cheap. I can't believe they don't come with the car.
Dealer said they list for $100.

FYI. I have a 2002 Ford Explorer and the black paint is peeling off from the cross bar and the roof rack.

On my '04 yes its an dealer only option and a little pricey. They sometimes list them on fleabay but shipping will be costly, they usually come as a complete assembley. whole thing crossbars and side rails. Every now and again i'll see just the cross bars for sale. Best price - no shipping - is the junk yard found mine for $75 for side rails and cross bars, threw out the side rails. Every now and again i'll see the cross bars only for sale on fleabay.
