Roof Rack...wind noise?

I am wanting to add a safari rack...
My concern is wind noise. What is everyones experience, I do a fair share of highway driving and don't want to have to drown out alot of noise.

My basket does make a fair share of noise above 60 mph, even moreso if the highway is windy. It's mostly white noise, which isn't in itself annoying, especially if you have the music on. However, it drowns out some of the highs in your music. I'm fixing that by installing a new component system soon

It's not that bad and you get used to it. One thing though, you lose some fuel economy.

I made my own roof rack with some scrap metal i had laying around. Unfortunately some of the pieces had holes drilled in them so i left it like that. I thought that the holes might make a ton of noise but my roof rack is completly silent although it does rattle if the hi-lift is not tight up against it. Also alec is right, you will loose some gas milage but not much.

Here's my solution. It makes a world of difference because I have a lot of lights that make tons of noise.

zensius, you think if I got a good piece of vinyl and stretched it across the front of the basket it would help? I think we have very similar baskets.

I'd give it a try. Maybe a piece of plexiglass like people use for roof-top bike racks.

what size racks is everyone using, please let me know, i am thinking about getting a s surco rack, 40x50, 45x50 50x60, lemme know please. and how did you mouint it to your stock rack?

I believe mine is a 40x50. It's a Steel Horse. Nothing really speacial. Came with little things i guess you could call them a special kind of ubolt that go around the roof cross bars and fasten around the the rack too. It's not the most stable thing in the world. With my High Lift jack on one side it rattles some cause of the weight. It does hold a 31" pretty good though.
