About to put a new 2021 PIU into service. It is the base ICE V6 non-hybrid. This vehicle will run two 9 hour shifts a day, and will spend the majority of the time between responses idling to power equipment and HVAC. Mileage runs about 3-4000 a week typically. Our company normally services fleet vehicles with non synthetic every 5000 miles. This vehicle replaces a series of Prius Vs that were really well suited to long hours of idling as the ICE would only pop on for a minute every now and again to keep things topped off. Looking for a best practices for this type of engine wear and if we should be looking at oil changes based on hours or miles? Our Prius vehicles only last about 150,000 mils on average before they get headgasket failure (and are then taken out back and shot), so this being a non-hybrid Ford that will wear a lot faster, I really want to impose a strict maintanance schedule on it to ensure it lasts as long as possible.

Non synthetic is false economy.

Non-synthetic for a PIU may not make sense but regular premium dino oil is the recommended product for the Canadian retail market.

I think using a blend every 5,000 miles should work out well. 4,000 a week sounds a tad high, that's almost 600 per day. You guys really run that much?

For all our PIU’s used as Plolice patrol vehicles, we change the oil and filter every 200 hours. Haven’t had any engine problems from our 2014 to 2021 PIU’s.

We also do 5000 mile services and follow Fords severe duty schedule.
