Hi guys,

tonight I noticed something rather weird. I was sitting in my car and I accidently hit the gas pedal. RPMs went up to 1500-2000 and then dropped down to 200..almost stalling the engine. All the lights in my car started dimming. After about 2-3 secs, RPMs went back up to 500 where it should be...
Anybody got an idea whats going on here??

thanx for all the help..

I think he meant IAC.

Idle Air Control.

IAC, check and clean it, it is on the side of the intake near the throttle body. Take it off- clean it out, test the solenoid and reinstall it. Sometimes they carbon up and dont react like they should, or the solenoid is bad and you replace it. Check your manual for details.

IAC valves go bad quite often.

Do a search on here for IAC, or howling explorer, or moose (as in sounds like one). There are many people, including me who have ahd crapped out IAC that were screwing things up. There was (may still be) a national shortage of these for the Explorer. Even my Ford Dealer couldn't get a new one for weeks.
