I am finally about to sound proof/insulate my Explorer. I am wondering if it would be a good or bad idea to spray a coat of rubber undercoating on the insides of each panel to help stiffen them up so they don't flex and rattle so much. Good idea or waste of time and abig mess?

Also, has anybody heard of this stuff called Reflectix? It is insulation that is less than 1/8" thick. Two guys I know are using this stuff to insulate their old Nova's that they have made into street rods. They say it keeps out exhaust/road noise and exhaust heat. It also keeps it warm or cool inside the car very well. One guy is finished insulating his and they are working on the other. The difference in outside noise coming in the cars is unbelieveable! The Nova with Reflectix is 100 times quiter inside than the one without. I am going to use it to insulate my Explorer. It's pretty cheap (25-30 bucks for a 2' x 25' roll at Lowe's).
I'll tell you guys how it turns out when I get it done. I'm really slow about getting things done though (I am a VERY busy person) so don't expect to hear about it for probably a month.

undercoating

honestly, i highly recommend the spray on rubbercoating. i mainly use it behind the speakers. before i install them i shoot on a few lawers. cost effective and it WORKS!!

I am planning on doing the following:
1 take out all of the panels, the seats, and the carpet
2 put dynomat around the speakers in the doors
3 spray rubber undercoating all over the metal behind the panels and on the floor
4 stick the Reflectix to the undercoating
5 spray undercoating on the back sides of the panels to stiffen them up ? (should I?)
6 run some 2 gauge wire under the carpet on the driver's side while it is out for my amps ? (will have 3 amps: 1 50Wx4 RMS, 1 300-500Wx2 RMS, and 1 200-400Wx1 RMS; is one 2 gauge wire going to a distribution box enough? or should I run a second 8? guage wire for the 50x4 amp and have the 2 guage go to the other 2 amps?)
7 run some 12 gauge RF speaker wire under the carpet in the middle of the truck for the door speakers
8 run RCA cables down the left side under the carpet
9 run some speaker wires from where I will put the 200-400W amp to where I will be adding a Thunderform in the future

Sorry so many questions but I want to do it RIGHT the first time. Any suggestions on what else to do while I have the insides apart?

Will have to put this off for about 2 weeks since it is calling for a little snow over the next couple of weeks. No way am I gonna be stuck driving my mom's J**p GC because my Ford has no seats. :-)
