my front diff has a groaning noise in the diff area, i dont know if its easier to replace the bearing or swap for another complete front diff?, how it came about this was the same side wheel hub had collapsed so the tyre was at a angle for a couple of months, after fitting a low milage hub there was still a groaning sound made in the same place, would it be easier to drop and fit a low milage front diff or replace the drive shaft bearings? would it be better to do both sides or just that one?

More likely a halfshaft. A broken hub as you described would stress the halfshaft, not anything in the diff.
