I think it looks a lot better with them off, especially on a 2 door.

After having a Ranger with step bars, I purposely got a Sport Trac without them. Looks better IMO and the bars were mostly good just for getting my pants dirty in the winter.

That was one of the first things I did to my Explorer when I got it, though I had to since they got hung up on some rocks and torn them off.

Took mine off my Trac right after my first off road in it, they get hung up on everything.

I recently took them off my '01 Sport. My wife complains about the high step in height every time she gets in my truck now. I like it though, so that's how it's staying.

I removed mine soon after buying it bout 3 years ago and it was fine & looked alot better but now after adding a lift and larger tires the girlfriend can barely even get in so i had to put them back on and it looks much better than i thought it would
