Running Boards / Flares Need To Go!

I hear ya

Robb,

I hear ya when you said you have to see for yourself and for some reason I thought your tires were smaller than 255, my bad!

Good luck

Hey, COOLCHRISCUSH:

Are you telling me that my Limited flares won't have holes behind the flares but an EB does?

The '99 Limited is the first year with the fender flares. '95-'98 Limiteds don't have fender flares.

yea thanks for clearing that up billy. i meant the '95-'98 limiteds, sorry.

i took off my sidesteps...

and there was little holes all along the bottom. so i put them back on. i got some bondo and touch up paint and took them off filled the whole sprayed it and clearcoated it a few times. looks great...also marked where the holes were on the inside if i ever wanted to drill threw the bondo and put them on again...dont think i will tho...i like my explorer so much better w/o sidesteps... they rubbed so much when offroading. i also took off that thing in front that was around my fog lights. but put it back on cause something was under it under the radiator and i didnt want to take that off cause i didnt know what it was.

Also you can replace the running boards with the rocker panel extensions and end caps for the flares that came on Eddie Bauer Explorers that had tubular running boards.

I know this is old, but...

I'm in the process of removing the runningboards from my '94 XLT and wondered if the rocker panel extensions from an EB would fit to cover up my holes. Thanks!

What happens if i remove the fender flares on my 00 sport? I know it'll leave holes but is there like residue under there? My truck is black so will it be black under there or will i have to paint it anyway if i took them off.

No, there is no residue, just the clips hold it on. It is your body color under the flares/molding. Mine has all of this and, personally, I LOVE the way it looks, hence the reason I own it. I'm not into offroading so I like street trucks better.

fender flares removed

i have a 97 eddie bauer and just removed the whole kit...there is paint underneath and about 87 holes. the trick is to patch them with jb weld and do a custom rhino liner job. my truck turned out sick! very clean, thin and tough as nails on the fenders. you got any easy suggestions on a 1-2 inch lift. i have warrior shackles and a tt ...i want a body lift for a little more....not three inches though.
