If you ran an engine without oil for 2 days what would get ruined. Would the block get ruined? If so what could get damaged on it (block) that is unrepairable.

TIA

An engine wouldn't run 2 hours without oil, let alone 2 days... If you're asking about low oil, well, kinda depends on how low. It runs the gammet from no damage to a ruined cam to spun bearings. I've seen dir track engines get oil starved, start snapping connecting rods, and the remainants thrash around inside and rip the hell out of everything... I've seen pistons get jammed through the bores from the bottom end seizing up. You could score the bores to the point they couldn't be fixxed. What happened?

It would be impossible to run 2 days w/o oil.

Why do you think you did this? Is your engine still running?

There is an X for sale and the owner said his wife drove it for a couple days "without oil" so probably really low and now the engine is shot. He didn't give me anymore details rather than that so I wondered if I could just pull the engine, get the cylinders bored/honed put in a rebuild kit or if the block itself could get damaged from doing that.

Theres a good chance that all you'd need would be a run of the mill rebuild with a small overbore (don't go too far, you'll run into cooling problems, among other things)... If it takes too much bore, trash it, its junk. Unless the thing exploded catastrophically, that may be all you need. But I'd be nervous buying it without at least dropping the pan to inspect the bottom end, and possibly yanking the heads.

my aunt took her HONDA accord to wal mart to have her oil changed, the **** faces forgot to tighten the oil filter all the way...all the oil leaked out when she was driving around town.....engine locked up...had to buy a new engine at wal marts expense.

hers was a Honda, which IMO have really really really good engines that seem to run forever. so if it couldn't run for 2-3 hours without oil runing your explorer without oil for days....ha...good luck. thats all i got to say.
