Good evening guys and gals:
Here's a classic. I have a 98 exp with the 4.0 push rod engine. First really cold day of the year here in Ontario and it turns on the CEL. I figured a weak o2 right away or a leak in the intake gasket. Put the reader on it and sure enough I'm getting P0171 and P0174 which is lean both banks.
Here's my question. Since it is lean on both banks I am hoping that it isn't the intake gasket, and I don't think that it is pointing to the o2 sensors, can anybody support this (or correct me)? First step I am going to replace the fuel filter to make sure that it is not restricted. Next would be to test the pump pressure, but that means spending a fortune at my local Ford dealer just to say hi and walk in their door. Check the vac lines running to the fuel regulator........ anything I am missing?
