i'm out of time to get my truck inspected... almost. monday is the last day before my inspection expires. we might or might not have my speedo part taken care of. which would fix one of the reasons my cel is on. the other is my o2 sensors are running rich.
codes : 1132 & 1152
tsb: 98-23-10
ford says it may or may not be the maf causing it but most likely is... maybe  they asked if i had a k&n and i said yes and they said thats my problem. the k&n ruins the maf. i need to buy a new maf and a stock air filter. how can that be true? i know lots of people run them... i've already tried cleaning my maf. no luck. i mean i'd buy a new maf to fix my problem but don't want to ruin a brand new one running my k&n. i dunno what to do and i'm running out of time. could my flasher be causing it to run incorrectly? i'm going to put the original program back in it. and probably buy a new maf. i don't know what else to do or where else to start on fixing this

Would like to hear some thought on this as well. I thought I heard people on the forum say they have had no problems running a K&N setup. I believe K&N has a sticker that sez it should pass smog inspection.

If you over oiled your K/N you could have some oil on the MAF sensors. Try cleaning your MAF again and see what happens. I've run K/N filters in 5 differant vehicles and never had a K/M ruin anything. I did over oil my K/N in my explorer once and got crappy performance till I cleaned the MAF. You could need a new MAF though, I have heard of those going bad.

the k&n is legal but ford is telling me running it will ruin the maf every time resulting in a improperly running engine meaning i can't pass emissions testing on my truck.

You are getting 02 sensor codes and Ford says the MAS is at fault?
Have the 02 sensor been replaced?

Clean the MAS, reset the battery.

the K&N simply lets more air though the intake. If you over oil it you can get oil on everything in the intake. Any oil or buildup on the hot wires in the MAS can cause issues, the solution is a cleaning not a new $300 sensor.

More air is a good thing, not a bad thing and your trucks computer is perfecty capable of compensating for the additional air.

i ordered a new/ rebuilt maf... for about $80 i don't even know what the maf i have now came off of. the junk yard gave it to me and said this should work (it was free). anyways that was a while ago. could the wrong maf cause this problem?

i have not replaced the o2 sensors. my guess is they've never been replaced. i got it with 68,000mi on it and now its has 102,000 or somewheres around there

i'm going to replace the maf anyways. atleast then i know what i have on there. should i jus up and replace the o2 sensors too? see if the maf fixes it first or what?

Um well the computer is giving you 02 sensor codes

I want to know why Ford said the MAS is at fault however.

Do you happen to know the fault codes?
The first step, if you dont understand what is going on, is to start fresh.
I assume the check engine light is on.
Pull the codes.

Start from there.
Dont just throw $$$ at it, 02 sensors are like $65 ea and you have 4 of them.

They are taking the easy way out. Happens all the time.

well they might jhave found a fault with the MAS for sure, but likely cleaning it would do the trick instead of a $300 new one from the dealer parts dept.

If they found a fault with teh MAS and the 02 sensor codes are because of it, then you might not need to replace anything is my point (put the $$$ down)

yes the cel is on... i thought i already got the codes, what i posted in my first post. is there something else i need? different codes?

As 410 stated (I'm always saying that), clean the maf again and reset the battery (actually you need to disconnect the battery anyways) and then have the codes pulled again. Why did you replace the first MAF with another? Unless you have more money than time I would go the easy cheap way first.

Oh, and what did you use to clean the maf and how?

Sorry I meant were thos the ONLY codes?

1132 = insufficient switching, 02 bank, 1 sensor 1 sensor rich
1152 = HO2S bank 2 sens 1 issuficient switch rich mean

I would replace the bank 2 sensor 1 myself.

oh and clean the MAS, reset the computer (- batt cable or clear codes) and I bet that solves your emissions problem.

those were the only codes besides my speed sensor crap i'm still trying to fix... i replaced my old maf b/c... i honestly don't remember it was bad i guess. it helped my truck run better by putting another used maf on it. it was free anyways so y not. i've always had a cel since i sas my explorer but the speed sensor code was all that came up. now i have this... anyways keep throwing out ideas, suggestions, anything u can come up with. i'm open to anything right now. i'll try to keep what little $$$ i have in my pocket for right now.

Dude
You admit to running a mAF that may not even be a Ford MAF (junkyard), you can buy a MAF at AZ for 90 bux + core, you can buy an OEM MAF from ford for 180.
You need to start at step one, with the proper parts
Clean the filter again(do not overoil) disco the Batt, Clean the MAF, if the proper MAF.
You have far to many issues at this point, start fro step one

You mentioned a flasher. Have you tried using the original chip and see if you still get the same codes? Just a thought?

Great Idea, flash back to OEM and see what happens

i'll put the original program back in... i'm running the maf i have now b/c they told me this will work and i took there word for it and yes it is ford maf. they know more than i do. i personally am not 100% sure its right. anyways... i'm not buying a new maf anymore. i'm going back to the stock program... get the codes read and if i still have problems i'm taking it to ford to run there tests on it. they said they can pin point the problem for me so i know exactly what to replace. $64 and they'll let me know what i need to do. sounds better than buying parts i might not need... i guess i'll find out monday
