My 02 explorer is starting to run a little rough at low idle..
Not all the time.. Just sometimes. I notice it when I come to a stop at a red light sometime.. The RPMs don't drop noticably...

I'm going to replace the fuel filter (if I can find it!) and see if that helps. (it needs it anyway...)

But any other thoughts? Should I replace the plugs? I think the guides say to replace the plugs at 100k... but I'm only at 65k.

Thanks,

Jim

Have you cleaned the MAF? The IAC?
uh... That would be a no.. considering that I didn't even know what those TLA's (Three letter Acronyms) stood for!
Are they easy to get at? (is there a guide here?)

That last serious work I've done on cars was maintaining my '77 Monte Carlo! (rebuit engine and what not..) but that was back in HS and college..

So I'm not afraid to get dirty.. I just need to know where the MAF and IAC are and how to "clean" them! (I did look up the those TLA's and found out what they stood for! ) :)

How many miles are on the plugs/wires? The fuel filter?
65K - So I know I'm overdue on the fuel filter.. But the plugs and wires should be good, right? I suppose I could just pull a couple and look at them..

Check in the list of useful threads and you will find the info you need.

A very easy task to clean them.

I have over 65k on my current plugs and the one I recently pulled looked brand new.

Good luck on fixing your idle.
