Hi All,
I go out on a number of runs in the Joshua Tree area and if any one would like to join me send me a message. Trails which I take include Old Dale Road, Brooklyn Mine Jeep Trail, Black Eagle Mine Trial, Bradshaw Trail, Berdoo Canyon, Anza Borego: Rockhouse Canyon, Split Mountain Canyon, and a host of others. Over the past four years of exploring the desert out here I know of a number of trails that will suit all interest. However the Park Service and BLM are continully taking more and more trails away. This year alone we lost two trails in Joshua Tree alone. One of which was Rock Canyon Trail which was great but deemed to difficult and was closed. Anyway anyone interested in runs in SOuthern Ca shoot me a message and then we will set up a date for the run

joshua sounds great!

Starsailor,

I would like to join you on a run to Joshua! Would this include camping out? I'm in Orange County. Yucca valley has some good trails too.

Please keep me posted.

Dan

What's the date you're planning on going to Joshua Tree NP. With the current series of storms coming through, I might go out there in a couple of weeks if the desert starts blooming.

Casual Joshua Tree Run - Feb 24th or 25th

Suzanne and I are both fans of the Joshua Tree Park, and we've been wanting to return to Joshua Tree once my hectic DJ schedule subsides. It looks like I'll have the time on the weekend of the 24th of Feb. If anyone wants to rendezvous, please let us know and we can make accomodations. We like to enter the park at Dillon Road and drive up through the Berdoo Canyon entrance. I have another friend who drives a Toyota 4Runner who will pack in her kids and friends for a nice drive with us to some of the places listed in the message that started this thread. We live in Riverside. Contact me at:

If you folks are going to Jashua on the 24, 25th of February let me know. I'm interested in making that run with you.
I prefer to camp out Saturday night, is that your plans too?
I can't make the run on March 10th.
I think Peter Weber is interested in going the 24, 25th also.
Let us know the plans.

Who is going, is this a for sure?

I may attend as well, just curious of who all is going. Peter, did you decide for sure yet?

I'm not sure about camping out, but it does sound like fun. I just want to check out as many nice spots as possible. In particular, when we ran Pinkham Canyon last month, we noticed this trail which ran up from the
main trail and into the hills. There were also plenty of offshoots, but being alone caused us to just stick to the
main route. Also, since Rockhouse is closed (sux!), we know of a killer mini-canyon trail, but which might require lockers and possibly 35's to access (small waterfall adjacent to Berdoo Canyon Road). There are several possibilities in this park, and just a day or two. I'm ready - my truck's ready. I just installed my Rancho RS 9000's yesterday, and with the Jeep CJ swaybar disconnects and my new clinometer, I'm waiting to see how everything performs. Blaine - you're making the drive all the way from San Diego? Wow! I guess you're serious about your wheeling? Yep! Take it easy, and see you all on the trail.

Cottonwood Visitors Center - Meeting Place

Our meeting place will be the Cottonwood Visitors Center. The cost for accessing the park is $10. This fee is good for 7 days of park usage. How does Channel 13 sound in terms of CB Radio usage? We're also thinking about meeting up at 9 AM. Be sure to fill up yer gasoline in Indio. There are several filling stations just off Dillon Road. Your drive to the Cottonwood Visitors Center is just another 10 or so miles beyond this point. My phone number is (909) 781-2059 for anyone wanting to get in touch without access to this webboard.

I have taken a number of the off shoots off Berdoo canyon as well and I was talking with one of the park rangers about them shutting down Rockhouse canyon trail and was told they are planning even more closures over this coming year. So who knows what the hell they are going to take away next. So far some of my favorite trails in the park have been closed.
When we head up Old Dale Road the split off to Broklyn mine jeep trail offer some interesting trails up above going to Las Angeles and the Broklyn mines and there is a nice horizontal shaft for anyone interested in exploring some of the old Gold mines. This one seems pretty stable so it shoudl be pretty safe. Depending on the turn out if we have enough stockers we can either split up and meet on the other side of the Dale range or whatever everyone wants to do. Most of the trails in the area mieander eventually to the site of the Ghost town New Dale which not much remains of it. See you on the trail next week

Joshua Tree Rollcall

Suz and I will definitely be meeting everyone at 10 AM on Saturday. Who else will be going?

Ken, I will be there.
Coming from Northern LA., I'll be there by 10am.
There may be two of us.

Re: Joshua Tree Rollcall

10:00 AM sounds good to me and will be ready to go. See you at Cottonwood.

I don't think I can make it this weekend. I was really looking forward to it, especially since I haven't been out there for about three years. Unfortunately I have another commitment.

Hope you all have a good time. Maybe next time.

ARE WE GOING

Is this still going? I want to make sure, so I don't show up and no one is there.

We Are Still On

Yes The Run is still on. We are Meeting at the Cottonwood visitors center at 10:00 Admission into the park is $10. See you at 10:00

how many

I know these are late questions, BUT, who is all going, and is everyone camping? I may only do a one day run, being that my family is going to be co-pilolting this time, and aren't big campers.

WHo is coming

So far it looks like we have 4 for sure with a possiblity of two additional trucks showing up. We had discussed camping but this time of year camping in the high desert is still mighty cold so we elected on a single day event. We are all planning on getting started no later than 10:30 and running possibly as lite as 8:00 and that will be it.

I'll be there...

sounds like we should have some fun.

I'll see you folks at 10am. We'll be driving up in two Sports.
One of us is camping for the night, the other is staying just for the day.

Post Run

Thanx to everyone for the great day at Joshua Tree. Dan, you did a great job of leading us through the trails...it will be interesting following you once you get that thing lifted. We will definately add that four-wheel'n location into our rotation. One of the great thing about being in So Cal is that we can be out of the rat race in a matter of a couple of minutes, with all of this beautiful country to "Explore!" Can't wait to see some of the pics you guys took, I'll post mine as soon as I get them back. I am going to start posting info for runs in the club section of Serious Explorations. Just look for So Cal Explor'n. I am really interested in the Baja run, but Becky, my wife, reminded me that we are going to Montana in May for a couple of weeks, so we'll have to see if Memorial Day weekend still works for me. See you all on the trail, and who know, maybe on the free ways.
