I've found some incredible help here on fixing the leaking fuel tank in my 1993 EB explorer.

However, there is one nut left that is holding the middle strap of the tank and OF COURSE it's frozen. I've tried banging it, penetrating oil and an impact wrench but it's not budging. (it's not on a lift).

I'm pretty sure my fuel tank is mostly empty. My idiot question is -- how stupid would I be to try heating the bolt? The thought of playing with a torch under my fuel tank sounds like SUICIDE but i don't know what else to do. Cutting the strap sounds like it would be just as dangerous with the metal sparks flying everywhere. Any suggestions?

HELP!!!

Breaker bar, extension, and a good socket should easily snap the nut.

My Front Strap (bolted to the skid plate) was frozen/rusted badly. Using a breaker bar or impact was useless since the torque would have twisted the strap into the tank cutting it open. I cut it off with my 4.5" cutting wheel. Before that I placed a fan under the truck to blow any residual gas fumes away.
