Ok, I have my new springs. I want to do the TT but my dad is being a pain. He says that #1 this won't work, its not possible to lift it this way. #2 He said that if i do the bars will break and decapitate me, #3 no one will be able to do an alignment on it. I know this will lift it( ) I'm not sure about #2 & 3?

Thanks, Todd

1: no they won't break unless you chip the bar
2: yes they can align your x you may have to get after market camber cams to do the alignment.

I've been running a TT for years without any problems and so have many other members. Only a few have broken Tbars, and that was due to offroad damage (landing on them), not the twist.

I have never had any problem with them lowered. For a year or better.

You released tension! I'm going the other way!:p

you can snap them but chances are exceptional that you won't just buy adjusting the bolt. Trucks have been lifted this way for YEARS. But in the end, if your dad foots the bill for the X then it is his descision.;)

Todd pays all!

I've been running the TT for almost a year now and have had no problems. I have yet to break one, but I don't mudride much, just a few backwoods trails to get to some of my favorite fishin' spots. I actaully like the ride it gave and my dad, who was also skeptical at first, agrees that the level of firmness it provided makes the truck seem a lot safer to drive.

How much are the camber cams if I would need them?

mine is at 1.75" and I didn't need anything new.

have a TT for awhile now with 32's on them and have not broken one nor when i got it aligned did i need anything else! totally safe!

the camber kit will run you about $65 for the parts + $100 labor unless u put in the kit yourself.i raised my torsion bars about 1.5inches and needed the kit to get a proper alignment.my x does ride a little stiffer but is still comfortable.

what are these camber kits? never heard of them!

they are called alignment camber/caster kits and are available at most auto part stores,i got mine from an "AUTO VALUE" store.

I've had the TT lift on my '97 for about 4 years now with none of the problems your Dad has mentioned. Sears was also able to do an alignment on mine without the use of the extra cam kit. The only thing off on mine was my toe-in (which wasn't caused by my TT lift). My TT lift didn't change my alignment a bit.

I can vouch for Robert not being decapitated. I just saw him a few weeks ago and his head was still on his shoulders:D

I have had the TT for about 15 months and 18K hard city miles and 329.5 off-roading miles :D
But seriously; I have not had a single problem. My first alignment after doing it was a 'Lifetime alignment' for the front at $59 and including the adjustable cam/caster kit (whatever; they said it would make any future alignments easier to do...) came out to $119 or so. Plus you get the added benefit of nicer cornering properties with less dip in the front suspension. Good luck
:)

I take corners pretty hard every now and again and i must say the TT helped a lot with body roll issues. The ride is a lot better in my opinion, and i think everyone who has every done a TT on their explorer will side with me on that one.

I've never heard of anyone breaking t-bars from a TT, no matter which direction you go. Those bars are pretty beefy. And it's pretty obvious that it is possible to lift this way.

Print this thread and give it to your dad.
