I have a 96 explorer xlt 4.0 ohv, 5spd, electric transfer case. Standard tt, shackles, aal, and 31s. I am planning on doing a sas in the coming months and wanted to ask some advice. I want to keep it fairly low budget but mostly keep the time involved to a minimum because I work a lot and I love to wheel! So first question. Which is cheaper and easier? Full width 44 and 8.8 or just a cut down 44? Will the bronco/f150 axle have disc brakes? And my main question is what's the easiest way to do the steering? Regarding bar material, rod ends, and placement. If there's a good thread that goes into different types and what modifications are needed that would be great. Any replies would be much appreciated.

Do some research before starting another thread asking the same questions that have been asked over and over again.

I have a steering box from a '93 4x4 F-150
I use heim joints for my front end.

Heim joints that touch my D30:
5/8 with 3/4-16 thread
Pitman heim joint:

Ruffstuff is the best place for Heims.

Thanks I'll probably grab one from a 1st gen explorer but I believe it's the same box. So do you just use the knuckles stock mounting locations?

Rabbit91 is right, you really do need to go into the SAS registry and read read read. Find all the gen 2s and pick a couple you want to model yours after, then find those rigs' build threads and read those.
Then,
come back and ask whatever questions you have remaining.
All that info is there waiting to help you.

What I would do
1 find a cheep fa then cut it down if need be u can use a early 70 s 44 if u can find it and do a disk conversation onit. This is going to be the big part. Once u find one your golden.
2 easy and cheep don't go together in most cases.
3 stock steering box should work
4 you will need spring perches from or mental for a jeep to weld on the axle, if it didn't come with some one it like if u found a jeep d44.
5 get hight steer arms build drag link and hook to box run radios arms to fram connect with hims or JJ
6 hook up breaks
7wheel happy
