SAS for a 00+ ranger and converting 2wd to 4wd?

Anyone out there got any advice on a solid axle swap for a 2000+ ranger?
I'm looking at buying a 2001 right now that has 4 wheel drive already, but price may dictate if I can even get 4 wheel drive right now or if i'll have to go for an edge. so how about putting a transfercase in and adding the whole 4 wheel drive system later down the road when i can afford to do the sas?
How many of you out there just think I'm crazy to try to convert a 2wd to a 4wd?

Your ride looks great man, what kind of gas mileage are you getting with the 302?

I get about 16 or so. Not too much different than when I had 28" tires on it.
