ok, so im researching sas because this coming summer i want to throw the x on 39.5 swamper sts bias. so far this is what i have.
- jeep dana axles (44 front and 60 rear) w/ 4:88
- 10 inch lift coil springs from a buddy (f150 size ) so ill have to change out coil buckets to f150
- 4" rear suspension lift from skyjacker along with soa
- maybe arb... doubt that happens.....
- already have 3" body lift
- 39.5x15R15 swamper trxus sts bias on eagle 589 or classic II or something... not sure about rims
- what else major do i need. my buddy that im buying springs from just did sas on his f150 that had ttb so he can help custom fab most parts that he had to.
- let me know what you think!

Pretty good list.. How about steering? You gonna keep the a4ld?

what do you suggest? i hadnt thought about it, im not going to tear it apart like i have done with the 31s because thats too much stress sitting on 39.5. so it probably wont see mud or rocks. might see some sand every once in a while at the beach. but i would like to go heavy duty without haveing to fab up or customize too much. i havent looked into steering so i dont know what is good or not. oh, and eventually i want to run an edelbrock crate 302 motor with atlas II........ but we wont go into that dream yet. yeah, let me know what i should do.

do you think i should go with full width leaf springs in the rear or keep the stock ones? ummmmmm and are jeep axles exactly the same width as my stock ones? if i change the width of the axles i want to go maybe an inch or two WIDER not narrorer

any thoughts guys, help me out

D44 from what type of Jeep??

For that much lift, ide go atleast Crossover, if not Hi Steer

Why the STS Bias? It seems like this will msot likely be driven on the Road more than offroading... Why not a Radial.. you coudl get the STS Radial in a 38x15.50

The Radial will be alot nicer for driving on the road than that Bias....

You sure about that Jeep D60? They are pretty rare, only being available in heavy-half ton and up J series pickups.

Oh, and no reason in the world to run a bias tire on a street rig, which this truck will obviously be.

Heck i didnt even see teh D60 part, hell i never new there was a Jeep D60. LOL

but if your set on it, and you havent found one yet, (unless oyu already have these axles...)

heres some info i did find on the axle though

The Dana 60 is only availble on Jeeps for heavy duty applications. It was an option semi-floating and full floating in the J-series pickups until 1981. Some heavy 1/2 ton and early 3/4 ton J-series trucks used a semi-floating Dana 60 with 5 on 5.5" wheel bolt pattern. Later 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks used a full floating Dana 60 with 8 on 6.5" wheel bolt pattern. Shafts are either 30 or 35 spline.

Model/Version.......Spring Pads..........Wheel to Wheel............Years
Dana 60/J Pickup...Narrow Track.............NA/NA................. '63-'81

Nice one Kid! I see you are using my super-secret Jeep axle page. :D

well, you learn something every day! thanks for the help... so i guess i should go with full width and cut it down. how much would that cost? keep giving me advise guys... this is helping out a lot... and the reason i want the bias is the size... the tires look really good and ive seen a couple explorers here with 35s and 38s but to go the extra 1.5 would give me ease that here at home i have the biggest x.

Sounds like good ideas! The only thing I might add is with that setup, if you keep the A4LD, install as good quality cooling as possible. I'd look into an extra cooler, and possibly an electric fan for the cooler...

hey, what about breaks....... do i just need to get some longer break lines if i keep the stock breaks? i would love to upgrade to disk breaks all the way around......... but for now, if i just buy some from pro comp, is that it?

I think ya need to read and search and read, ALOT more if you're still unsure of brakes. But I'm sure the stockers will suffice initially.

If you're going to lock the front, i'd definately think about stronger shafts and joints.
For the springs, are they TTB springs? They'd be pretty stiff.
What kind of coil front are you going for?

Research!

no, they are custom springs he had made for a straight axle he put on a 94 f150. thats why i need to change spring buckets.

anything else i need to think about? any kind of lines or wires that need extending? let me know everything, thanks guys

you will probably need extended brake lines...

not sure but your steering may need some work, with that much lift.

(front?) and rear driveshaft will probably need extending too, with that much lift.

I'm betting those are going to be way stiff...you can go the route countless others have done with their SAS's and use early bronco springs with pre-80's
F-150 or 78-79 Bronco coil buckets and retainers and the radius arms from any of those trucks. It's probably the easiest route you can go because it requires the least amount of fabrication...check out the SAS registry forum, plenty of rigs in there that have gone this way.

I'm not 4x4 expert, but I do read a lot of ORA Mag.. Um, according to them, are you sure that that d44 will hold up to those 39's? You might want to go with something a bit stouter up front. Just my two cents, hell I prob. dont even know what im talking about.. lol l8r
