I have a '91 Xplorer and just swapped in a '78 Dana 44. I tried to move my steering rods to the top side of the knuckles but the hole is obviously tapered. I thought this could be done, but I guess not. I'd like to find out what the guys that have completed this project have done.

Please share.

Thanks.

Is this the first time the axle has been in something besides the '78? You're saying the TRE's fit now, they just have to be inserted from the bottom?

Go away.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Don't be part of the problem.

All i wanted was for you to post picks because your ? is vague. Also so someone will know what your talking about to help you!

the best way to set this up is with GM 1 ton TREs.....set over the knuckle but you need a 7* reamer....

Yes, exactly.

Thanks, this is the kind of information I was looking for. I knew it wasn't that hard to figure out. Thanks again.

Picutes help solve the prob also. So does the EF Search. Also there are several threads in the Explorer solid axle swap section.

Thanks, by now we all know how to Search. Believe it or not, I did a quick search and couldn't find what I was looking for so I asked the question. You can tell by my "join date" and number of posts that I don't have a lot of time to spend here looking thru several pages of messages trying to find an answer.

Dont be such an A-hole, those guys were trying to help. However, I dont remember seeing any other threads covering the same topic so im no pointing any blame at you for asking. I thought of doing that with mine but ive got leaf springs and I dont have room to run the tie rod flipped (thats the common term for tie rod over knuckle) Im wondering if you are coil or leaf spring and id definatly like some pics of your truck just so I can see what it looks like.

My advice, if you coil sprung just flip it and call it good, if your leaf sprung you probably wont be able to do this so go histeer with flat top knuckles as I will be soon.
