I am planning to do my SAS this summer, but I have one last problem I need to figure out. Will the steering need to be worked on at all? Will the steering box be ok? Am I goin to have to get a steering stabilizer?

Any help steering related would be great.

Thanks!!

check out Muddwhores thread in the SAS registry, very helpful

the power steering box is fine.
The steering will need to be tweaked tho. Some people have started with an EB steering set up and fabbed it to work. Some went with the Performance Unlimited TrailProof steering setup (which is what I'm doing).

I am using the stock pump, without a steering stabilizer. I am however going to get a new pump and have it reworked for more capacity so that I can run hydro assist. :D My current setup has the stock Bronco steering attached to stock knuckles. I am upgrading those as well, with some f250 flat tops so I can run High steer. I am going with Rockstomper.com's steering, mostly because I don't trust myself enough to do proper maintenance for heim joints, especially since it is my daily driver.
When I go with high steer, I will likely have to rework the track bar positioning so that I can get it to line up with the drag link. Hopefully it will be as simple as installing the stock pitman arm, and/or mounting the drag link on top of the pitman arm instead of below.

Stock box and pump should be fine up to about a 13.5" wide tire.

Anything wider than that and I would consider modding the pump and going hydro assist or going full hydro (if it will be trailered).

Thanks for the replies. I will just be getting 35/12.5 so I will keep my stock pump and box. I will be using a '76-'77 EB, so will that stock steering work for the D44?

that's what I'm working on, but now I find out that my tierod is seized, time ot get a torch:D
